Generous Job Search Strategies

In my new role as Director of Community Relations for the Bethlehem Center of Charlotte, I work directly with volunteers. Volunteering is a great way for job hunters to boost their skills while giving back to the community. Here are four ways volunteering can help your career search:

  1. Free Networking Opportunities: Volunteering in your community allows you to meet new people, including community leaders. You don’t have to join a club or attend meetings. You can also volunteer on dates and at times that best fit your schedule.
  2. Sharpen Old Skills and Develop New Skills: Volunteering is a perfect venue for keeping up with day-to-day office skills that are essential. In addition, it offers new opportunities to cultivate the latest skills and abilities that can enhance your career.
  3. New Awareness and New Options: Demographics are constantly changing in society and volunteering is a great way to enhance cultural awareness. Giving back to the community can also help you expand your horizons and explore new career options.
  4. Give Back and Feed the Soul: The satisfaction of knowing you are doing good and being involved in your community can be both energizing and renewing. This new found energy and sense of fulfillment can also give a positive light to your job search and carry over to new career opportunities.

And will you succeed?
Yes! You will indeed!

School Supplies

Dear Friends and Supporters,

It’s hard to believe we are halfway through the summer break. Although summer camp is still going strong, we are looking to Back-to-School time and getting “geared” up!

Due to the generous outpouring from our United Methodist Women, we are blessed to have a closet stocked with school supplies both to send our kids to school during the year, and to keep on hand in case of emergency. To be good stewards of your financial resources and kind hearts, this year we are only including a list of those items most needed. That isn’t to say you are not welcome to donate supplies not on the list; however, we do want to make sure all of our children’s needs are being met first.

Most needed items include:

  • Backpacks (particularly for older students, no decorations)
  • 3-ring binders, all sizes
  • Glue sticks
  • Construction Paper
  • TI-83 or similar type graphing calculator
  • Scientific calculators
  • Pen/Pencil Holders
  • Antibacterial hand sanitizer
  • Tissues

School supplies may be dropped off at the Bethlehem Center at 2705 Baltimore Avenue Charlotte, NC 28203 anytime between 9am and 5pm Monday-Friday, or by appointment. Please call or e-mail Renee at 704-371-7404 or rbromfield@bethlehemcenter.org with any questions or to schedule a drop-off appointment.
