How tutoring proves addictive PDF Print E-mail
It is currently 4:30 on a Tuesday at the Bethlehem Center.  The kids in Miss Sheree's room are practicing for a talent show, so if you were to walk around the Center right now, you'd immediately hear the squeals and giggles of 5 and 6 year olds excited about having a chance to show off.

These squeals and giggles are what make working and volunteering here so addictive.  Immediately new volunteers are greeted with hugs and smiles.  Once, one of our 3rd graders hugged a perfect stranger who was walking through the halls.  That's what you do here, right?  A new adult comes in, we greet with hugs!

We hold tutors here to high standards.  They are expected to abide by rules concerning the safety of both themselves and the kids.  They are also told that committing to serve as a tutor is committing to serve for one hour a week, one semester out of the year.  We ask that they commit to only an hour at first, then if they decide they'd like to come more, we will go from there.

But when greeted by hugs and smiles, it's very difficult to only stick to an hour.  It's the addictive quality of tutoring at the Bethlehem Center.

Robin Farina takes 5th at San Dimas PDF Print E-mail
The name "Robin Farina" should be fairly known to our supporters, even if you are not a cyclist.  You can join her at this year's inaugural Ride for the Kids to support the Bethlehem Center.  If you are a cyclist, you probably have already heard the name.  This local cyclist is not only a part of the Uptown Cycles team, but is ranked nationally as one of the best female cyclists.  This weekend, Robin took 5th at San Dimas, despite an unfortunate mishap when she suffered from a flat tire.  Read more about Robin and her team's successes this weekend here.

Blogs vs. Website PDF Print E-mail

We hope you're enjoying the new site.  Feel free to contact us with any suggestions or questions.  And of course, we always welcome volunteer hands to help make updates.

Some of you may have been following our old blog already.  Some of you might not have.  For those of you who haven't, you might be wondering... what's the difference between our blog and our website?

The simple answer is that website information is information that only changes monthly or less, while blog information may change as much as daily or hourly.  Now, there's a lot of techy mumbo-jumbo that goes along with blogs and why we want to use one at Bethlehem Center, such as letters like "SEO" or "social networking," but for your purposes, a blog gives you a closer look at the day to day activities of the Bethlehem Center.

This means that a blog post on one day might mean we want you to see our kids dancing in the auditorium or how the construction is moving along, and other days it might mean letting you know about one of our supporters holding a fundraiser.

For now, our Development Specialist Amy will be doing the blog updates, but don't be surprised if there's a guest blog from our program staff or board members.
